christopher kit marlowe

Marlowe quotes, portraits and plays, as well as designs relating to Marlowe's life can all be found here on t-shirts, hoodies, mugs, mousepads, prints and more.

Christopher Marlowe (also known as Kit Marlowe) was born in Canterbury in 1564, the son of a shoemaker. He was baptised in St.Georges church at the other end of the city, according to a plaque on the clocktower. He went to Kings School, Canterbury and from there to Cambridge. He became one of the most important English dramatists before William Shakespeare. Christopher Marlowe worked primarily in tragedy and wrote four important plays attributed to developing tragedy as a dramatic theatrical form. His most important work is considered to be The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus.

Christopher Marlowe was murdered in suspicious circumstances in Eleanor Bull’s Deptford tavern in the year 1593. Reportedly he was stabbed to death during an argument over the dinner bill, but as the killer was Ingram Frizer, a servant of Tom Walsingham, Sir Francis Walsingham's (Queen Elizabeth the First's "Spy Master") cousin, and the killing was witnessed by two of Walsingham’s spies, Robert Pooley and Nicholas Skeres, there is a theory that he was actually working for Walsingham as a spy for England, and was assassinated for trying to break ranks.
