QUEEN ELIZABETH THE FIRST BLACKFRIARS PORTRAIT (c. 1600)
Elizabeth the First in procession to Blackfriars in
the style of Peake, shows Elizabeth's visit in 1600 to
the chic residential district of Blackfriars for the wedding
of her maid of honour, Anne Russell, to Henry Somerset,
Lord Herbert. Despite white not yet being the established
bridal colour, both bride and groom are wearing
it, as well as Elizabeth I herself. This wedding was considered
an important society event, due to the lineage of the bride and
groom and the attendance of the Queen herself at the wedding.
This is a cropped version of the original portrait,
made available here on a wide rangeof t-shirts,
greeting cards, posters, prints, mugs
and gifts.
